Azores heritage disseminated on national radio programme

As a result of a partnership between the Presidency of the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, the national TSF radio station and the Heritage Studies and Archaeoscience Division of IGESPAR (Institute for the Management of Architectural and Archaeological Heritage), the programme "O património imaterial nas ilhas dos Açores" (Intangible Heritage in the Azores) will be broadcast from Lisbon on Saturday on March 24, 2012 at 11 AM. This programme is part of a series of radio programmes "Encontros com o Património" (Encounters with Heritage). The programme will be rebroadcast on March 25 at 12 AM.

The TSF radio programme dedicated to intangible cultural heritage in the Azores has a duration of one hour and will be presented by journalist Manuel Vilas Boas; the Regional Director for Culture, Jorge Paulus Bruno, will participate in the programme where he will address the aspects concerning the ongoing process to define the legal scheme for safeguarding the regional intangible heritage.

In addition to the Regional Director for Culture, this programme features three other Azorean guests: Hélio Costa, a man with a genuine connection to Terceira popular theatre and the author of nearly a thousand scripts for Sword Dances, Dancing Tambourine and Carnival "Bailinhos" (traditional dance from Terceira); Manuel Serpa, a man with a four decade connection to Pico folklore and an expert on the cultural phenomenon of Holy Spirit festivities in the archipelago; Victor Rui Dores, a researcher in the field of linguistics who has done research on island dialectal variants and who is currently studying the centuries-old tradition of Philharmonic Bands.
