Carlos Machado Museum promotes opening of "One, Two, Many - An Island In Exhibition" project
The Carlos Machado Museum promotes the opening "One, Two, Many - An Island in Exhibition" project by artist Marta Wengorovius. It will be held Wednesday, August 31, at 6:30 PM at the Sacred Art Centre, installed at Colégio Church in Ponta Delgada.
From the artist's perspective, this work consists of a map of São Miguel Island according to the location of phenomena, objects, experiences and reflections of experts from various fields of knowledge, presenting itself as an artistic proposal for reflection on what we pay attention to.
"The goal is to create an artistic work in the form of three maps, based on an interdisciplinary survey of São Miguel," Marta Wengorovius said, adding that the initiative has the support of experts from different fields, including fauna, flora and ethnography, among others.
The interdisciplinary team was requested to locate "interesting phenomena, either natural or cultural, which may represent and provide significant details about the "One" - individuality, unity, loneliness - the "Two" - relationship, rendezvous, confrontation, mutual dependence, the couple - and the "Many" - community, social experience, multiplicity.”
Following partial responses, added Marta Wengorovius, the team will create "maps indicating what to watch, at what time and in which places, as well as the route and the specific material for each observation."
"These maps and their activations allow participants to take another look and have a different perspective on the island," said the artist.
The activities included in this project, which will be open to the public until September 25, will take place on September 1, 2 and 3, respectively the "One" day, the "Two" day and the "Many" day.
A native of Lisbon, Marta Wengorovius completed her degree in painting at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon. She also attended drawing, painting and photography courses at AR.CO and the scenography course at the National Conservatory."
