Angra do Heroísmo ,  October 06, 2016

Fal'ARTE programme continues at Angra do Heroísmo Museum

The Angra do Heroísmo Museum continues the Fal'ARTE programme on October 8 at 3 PM, with the presentation of a paper by Maria Assunção Melo about the changes in the aesthetic categories of art in diachronic and civilizational terms, equating the relations between aesthetics and ethics in the case of contemporary art.

The Fal'ARTE project is falls under the goals of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum to train its audiences for aesthetic perception and appreciation. It is included the revitalisation plan of contemporary art exhibitions that are usually installed at the Dacosta room, such as the exhibition by Eduardo Carqueijeiro titled as "Fictitious Place - Promised Land."

Under this programme, there have been several sessions on the consistency of Dacosta's expository discourse and the identification of the iconographic elements recurrently represented in his works. These sessions have also addressed the allegorical roles traditionally assigned to the female figure, changes in beauty canons, elements characterising different artistic styles and issues related to authenticity and copy.

Assunção Gil Correia de Melo holds a degree in Art History from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of "Universidade Nova de Lisboa" (New University of Lisbon) and a Postgraduate degree in History of Contemporary Art. Currently, she is a doctoral student at the University of Évora.

She has conducted several research works on art criticism, including the book "António Dacosta, a Clarividência da Saudade" (António Dacosta, the Clairvoyance of 'Saudade'). She has also taught at the University of the Azores and took part in the MEDIAT/INTERREG IIIB project in which she was in charge of preparing the inventories on Contemporary Art and Public Art of the Azores.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
