Newly approved legislation regulates legal scheme on the safeguarding of the Azores Intangible Cultural Heritage
Following the publication of a legislative decree establishing the safeguarding of the Azores cultural intangible heritage in 2011, the Regional Government approved the ordinance regulating the legislation last Friday, July 13. In this context, the Government approved an electronic document for registration requests in the regional inventory.
The legislation has established a regional policy for intangible heritage which comprises the gradual creation of a database in tune with the dynamics of society, bringing a new perspective on museums and their respective collections as well as on their areas of influence. As part of the initiatives for the promotion and dissemination of knowledge, the Regional Directorate for Culture has supported the production of two documentaries in 2011 as the defence of spontaneity requires a consistent recording practice of the evolution of popular culture manifestations.
The documentary on the "Chamarritas" of Faial and Pico islands was exhibited at the Lages do Pico auditorium on July 6, 2012 and the public presentation of a documentary on Terceira's popular theatre is also scheduled for July.
The inventory process of the regional cultural intangible heritage will have its own website that may be consulted from August 29, 2012 through the Azores-Culture portal at www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
