Photography contest marks 10th anniversary of the classification of the Landscape of Pico Island Vineyard Culture by UNESCO
The Government of the Azores will promote a photography contest until April 30. The initiative is organised in partnership with local authorities in the context of the activity programme to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the classification of Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture by UNESCO.
Under the title "A glimpse over the Vineyard Culture Landscape - World Heritage," the contest invites both locals and visitors to know and disseminate, through photography, several features of Pico Island: building heritage, wine growing, wine producers, biodiversity and geodiversity.
A total of 10 photographs will be selected among the works in competition. The selected works will be part of an exhibition to be organised under the Celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Classification of Pico Landscape of Pico Island Vineyard Culture. The winning photography will be awarded a prize and two selected works will be distinguished with honourable mentions.
All works must be submitted until April 30 by email [email protected] or delivered in a sealed envelope at the headquarters of Pico Natural Park.
The contest rules are available for consultation in Pico Natural Park and at the following electronic address: http://servicos.srrn.azores.gov.pt/grastore/Regulamento_Concurso_Fotografia_Pico.pdf.
In 2004, UNESCO classified the Landscape of Pico Island Vineyard Culture as World Heritage. It encompasses an area of 987 hectares and a buffer zone of 1,924 hectares. Located in lava fields, the classified landscape is of great natural beauty and features a unique and traditional architectural complex: vineyards and fig trees grow protected by the “currais” (land plots) that are separated by black basalt walls.
