World Book Day celebrated at Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo Public Libraries and Regional Archives
The World Book Day will be celebrated by the Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo Public Libraries and Regional Archives on April 23.
The Ponta Delgada Public Library celebrates the event with the organisation of two initiatives in partnership with Trimagisto Cultural Cooperative. Created in Évora in 2001, this institution is mainly dedicated to oral narrative and reading mediation. The activities to be developed by this library will focus on these two areas.
This initiative will present the tale "Contapetes"; it consists of rugs that were exclusively made from fabric and whose design was inspired from books both in terms of illustration and narrative structure. Sessions are addressed at children aged between 3 and 8 years and have a duration of approximately 60 minutes. This activity will be held on April 20, 23 and 24 from 10 AM to 2 PM. There will be also sessions for parents and children on April 21 at 3 PM. In order to participate in these sessions, registration is necessary.
The celebrations also include the organisation of a "Tales Soirée" for an adult audience that will take place on April 20 at 9 PM. This activity is intended to evoke traditional evenings when people used to tell stories.
The "Tales Soirée" follows the work developed by Nuno Coelho and Luís Correia Carmelo as storytellers, who are also in charge of Trimagisto, while the initiative "Contapetes" is result of a meeting in 2004 with Eric Tarak Hammam and his "Racontetapis," the rugs that tell stories.
In this context, the initiatives developed by Trimagisto, particularly the project "Wandering Words," have taken place at the Animation and Educational Centre of Belém Cultural Centre since 2005.
Under the celebrations of the World Book and Copyright Day, the Angra do Heroísmo Public Library will launch a poetry work titled "A tua luz costurou-me uma bainha no coração” by Daniel Gonçalves on April 23. The book will presented by Carlos Bessa.
Daniel Gonçalves, the author of several published books, has been honoured with six poetry awards, including an international award. He was also awarded two honourable mentions at literary contests. In 2008, he was the recipient of the LABJOVEM Award - Young Creators in the literature category with his book "Poemas do tempo claro das coisas - sussurrados de novo.” More recently, Daniel Gonçalves won the Agostinho Gomes poetry prize in 2011.
Carlos Bessa was born in Viana do Castelo in 1967 and grew up in the outskirts of Porto. He has been living on Terceira since the mid 90s. He regularly collaborates in the book section of "Expresso" weekly newspaper and has published several poetry books.
