Regional Director for Education follows project selected by Ashoka in Rabo de Peixe
The Regional Director for Education, José Freire, will follow the activities organised by Ashoka, multinational social entrepreneurship organisation, at Rabo de Peixe Basic Education School on S. Miguel Island next Friday, February 16. These activities are held under the "Safe Path" project.
The initiative promoted by Rabo de Peixe Basic Education School was one of the five national projects selected in 2017 to become part of the so-called "Changemaker Schools" under the responsibility of Ashoka. This non-profit organisation has been active for the past 35 years, providing support to people and initiative with potential to change the world.
The "Safe Path" project stems from the need to overcome difficulties in terms of school failure that were identified in the 2014/2015 school year. Hence, it defends an integrated intervention based on four main vectors: school, family, health and leisure time.
The intervention principles consist of a systemic reading of the problem and the solution. It is based on the premise that any intervention to be carried out has to focus on the students in their social, family and school context, thus avoiding the isolated approach of the problem.
"Changemaker Schools" aim to recognise educational institutions that stand out for a vision of education that encourages the empowerment of young people to lead change processes, working in teams and empathetically, with special emphasis on generating value for communities.
