Coastal protection works in Vila da Praia wall on Graciosa to start in September
The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology stated today that the coastal protection works in Vila da Praia wall on the island of Graciosa will be under consultation until July 16. The work is expected to start during the month of September.
Gui Menezes said that this work, representing an investment of about 160 thousand Euros, intends to halt the degradation of the wall caused by the sea.
The protection of the wall will be carried out by placing one and two-tonne rocks and by waterproofing the foundations of the wall.
The Regional Secretary spoke during a visit to the site, adding that a 198-metre walkway will be built in the existing rockfill area with the aim of enhancing Vila Praia as a leisure area."
According to Gui Menezes, this intervention will "protect and redevelop the sea front and the respective surrounding area in the village of São Mateus, thus contributing to the enhancement of the entire urban area.
