The Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology released today the Supplementary Rules for the Rabo de Peixe Fishing Port, which includes a series of determinations, guidelines and informations to optimise the use of the port infrastructure.
"By publishing these rules, our aim is that Rabo de Perixe fishers use this port zealously, respecting the established rules in order to avoid conflicts and ensure the safety, hygiene and operating conditions of the port," said Fausto Brito e Abreu.
The rules define the area for the unloading of fish, the parking areas for vessels and the fueling area. They also determine the rules to be observed in wharfs as well as in the embankment zone and the areas where support equipment is installed.
"The rules for this fisheries port, which enter into force today, will become an important tool for the management and planning of this port infrastructure that serves the largest fishing community of the Azores," said the Regional Secretary for the Sea.
Brito e Abreu also mentioned that the fishing community of Rabo de Peixe has "a very strong tradition and, therefore, has to adapt some of its habits to the new port", which has "excellent conditions at a national level and event at a European level."
