The Regional Secretary for Health urged students of Santa Maria Basic Education and Secondary School in Vila do Porto to follow the “recommendations and practical self-protection advice” on their finalists' trip.
Teresa Machado Luciano spoke during "Travelling… Going and Coming Back," an activity developed by the Regional Directorate for Prevention and Control of Dependencies and the School Health team with the aim of reducing risk behaviours during finalists' trips.
The Secretary for Health recalled that Spain, the country to which the group intends to travel, has about 120 cases diagnosed with Covid-19 infection, emphasising the importance of adopting protective measures, not only for individual health, but also for the well-being of family, friends and the entire community.
The "Traveling…Going and Coming Back" initiative involved more than 100 senior high school students in 2019, covering various schools on the islands of São Miguel, São Jorge, Pico and Graciosa.
This month, there are scheduled sessions for the islands of Graciosa, São Miguel and Pico, involving more than 700 young people.
The follow-up of young people in the process of planning and preparing their finalists' trips is intended to give them some theoretical and practical support deemed necessary to prevent risk situations and behaviours.
