Ana Cunha highlights Regional Government's investment in improving conditions of public roads
The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works stated today that the Regional Government is investing 1.1 million Euros this term in the improvement of road surface marking across the regional road network.
Ana Cunha assured that the Government continues "to work for the people towards the improvement of their quality, which also involves the improvement of safety conditions in public roads and increased accessibility."
The Secretary for Public Works signed on Flores the contract work for the application of thermoplastic hot paint on the island's roads, an investment of about 57 thousand Euros with a completion period of 90 days. It will include the application of paint in the section of the Regional Road between Santa Cruz and Lajes, covering an overall extension of 18 kilometres.
On the occasion, Ana Cunha pointed out that "the current road surface markings need to be reinforced in the centre line and, in some cases, in the lateral lines. Hence, it will be necessary, in most cases, to make a layout prior to making the definitive road markings."
"This contract work also includes the painting and repainting of other road markings such as crosswalks and other sign markings," added the government official.
Overall, the intervention will include the painting of lateral lines, solid white lines, broken white lines, crosswalks and overtaking markings, covering a total area of 5,940 square metres.
For the Regional Secretary, the investment in thermoplastic technology in road surface markings, although more expensive, "offers several advantages such as increased longevity, eight times more durable than solvent-based paint, and is more reflective in adverse weather conditions and during nighttime.
Ana Cunha stressed that "this is another action that evidences the Regional Government's concerns in improving accessibility, public roads, mobility conditions and the quality of life of all Azoreans."
"We remain committed to fulfilling the commitments made under the XII Programme of the Government, namely the optimisation of the Region's resources, the improvement of public infrastructures and the reinforcement of land mobility," said the Regional Secretary.
