Regional Government welcomes approval of the project for the new Graciosa Air Terminal by ANAC
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works, welcomed today the approval of the project for the construction of the new Air Terminal at Graciosa Aerodrome by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).
According to Ana Cunha, “this is an important step towards the pursuit of the goals set out by the Regional Government and Graciosa islanders. This is even more necessary after the fire that broke out last May in that terminal, namely in the cargo area, affecting its normal operation, albeit for a short period."
With the approval of the project, “it will be possible for the Government, through SATA Gestão de Aeródromos, S.A., to proceed with the launch of the public tender for this contract work, which is expected to take place during the month of July,” said the Regional Secretary.
It should be noted that this is an investment of more than 4.3 million Euros, which also includes a car park.
The new air terminal to be built will be located next to the existing building and will have capacity for 120 passengers, corresponding to 75% of the maximum capacity of two DASH Q400 aircraft in simultaneous operation.
Besides the new air terminal building, the project provides for the redevelopment and expansion of the car park, including the lighting of the surrounding area, the remodelling of the aerodrome fence and the paving of the implantation area of the current terminal, which will be demolished after the building enters into operation.
