São Roque do Pico Passenger Terminal moves forward when there will be conditions to choose the best solution, says Ana Cunha
The Regional Secretary for Transport stated today that the Regional Government will move forward with the project for the Passenger Terminal in São Roque do Pico when there will be "a carefully thought-out and analysed solution in terms of cost/benefit that allows us to opt for the safest and best solution."
"We are currently analysing the proposed solutions and making a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each solution," Ana Cunha said, adding that "they are not technically easy solutions; otherwise we would have already opted for one."
"In this type of investment, involving of considerable amount, I prefer to have a technically safe solution and a solution that is the best for that municipality. We are not bound to deadlines because, in fact, we are working on several solutions," stressed the Regional Secretary. She spoke to journalists at the end of a visit to São Roque Commercial Port, where she was accompanied by the head of the Regional Port Authorities and the mayor of São Roque Town Hall.
According to Ana Cunha, "there is still no definition" regarding the solution to be implemented, but assured that the Azorean Government will not abandon this project.
The Regional Secretary stated there is a study for the development of the passenger terminal in São Roque Bay, as an alternative to developments in Cais do Pico.
However, Ana Cunha revealed that the Government of the Azores is available to study the possibility of expanding the current commercial dock, as a possible alternative.
