The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stated on Pico that the intervention plan under implementation ensures "the full defence of the interests and rights of COFACO workers" on this island.
Paula Andrade also stressed "the commitment and availability of technicians to continue monitoring each worker on an individual basis, always guaranteeing the conditions for the maintenance of their employability" at that plant.
During the last week, technicians from the Regional Directorate for Employment and Vocational Training as well as a team from the Regional Labour Inspectorate met individually with all the workers of COFACO plant.
"In addition to providing clarification and support, these technicians have already concluded the assessment of the needs in terms of training and qualifications, as provided for in the intervention plan," added the Regional Directorate. She travelled to Pico Island last Tuesday to present the conclusions of the work carried out with each worker.
"Taking into consideration the interests of more than half of the workers, the Government will create training opportunities, namely in the food industry" in partnership with Pico Vocational Training School, with loss of any right, revealed Paula Andrade.
In this regard, the Government will promote Basic Skills Acquisition courses under the Valorizar Network. According to Paula Andrade, this is a possibility that allows workers who lack some levels of schooling may improve their qualifications during a period of labour inactivity.
