10th Iberian-Atlantic Conference on Regional Statistics to take place on Terceira and Flores
The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA), will hold the 10th Iberian-Atlantic Conference on Regional Statistics Monday, October 22, in Angra do Heroísmo, and on the following day in Santa Cruz das Flores. The event brings together representatives of statistics production entities.
This year's edition will focus on the theme "Tourism Statistics and the Digital Economy." In addition to SREA, the event will involve the participation of statistical authorities that are part of the National Statistical System, such as the National Statistical Institute, the Bank of Portugal and the Regional Directorate for Statistics of Madeira, as well as the Regional Directorate for Tourism and ISTAC - Canary Islands Statistics Institute.
The conference will also be attended by the President of ANACOM - National Communications Authority, João Cadete de Matos, who will present a paper on "The Digital Economy and the Development of Tourism in the Azores."
In previous editions, several statistical institutes from peninsular and Atlantic regions of Portugal and Spain visited the Azores with the purpose of sharing and confronting different realities and experiences. They have also promoted a reflection and debate on the production and dissemination of statistics in the regional context, which has long been recognised by the European Parliament and the EU Council.
The Azores Regional Statistics Service has the mission of producing and disseminating official statistical information of quality, thus contributing to citizenship and the development of the knowledge society.
