The Vice-President of the Government stressed today in Ponta Delgada the positive results yielded by "the creation of sustainable employment" that the Regional Government is developing in the archipelago.
"The National Statistics Institute recently revealed that the Azores continued to register a decrease in the unemployment rate in the last quarter, while there was an increase in the country", said Sérgio Ávila, who spoke at the presentation session of the Azores 2020 Operational Programme.
"Last Friday, the National Government confirmed the data when announced that the Azores were the only region of the country where the number of unemployed registered at employment centres dropped in January," noted the government official.
According to Sérgio Ávila, the data show "a decrease in registered unemployed for the tenth consecutive month and that there are 10 percent fewer unemployed compared to the previous year."
The Vice-President of the Government announced that "we maintained and consolidated this downward trend in unemployment in the month of February."
"Currently, the Azores register the biggest drop in the number of unemployed over the last 26 months," Sérgio Ávila stated, noting that the Regional Government is developing a set of structuring measures for the development we want to achieve in the Region, especially with regard to the "strategy" aimed at the promotion of employability.
