The Economic Activity Indicator (EAI), which assesses the general situation of the economy in the short term, registered a 2% growth in July in the Azores, thus validating the good momentum of the Region's economy through the continuous evolution of production indicators.
EAI, an index analysed and published in the Azores since 2014, allows the monitoring of the evolution of regional economy. It reveals that the evolution stood at 2% in July, also representing a growth regarding the same month of the previous year, when this indicator grew 2.1%.
The calculation of the IAE released by the Azores Regional Statistics Institute (SREA) considers the data on the main activity sectors in the Region, including statistical series on "Milk Delivered in Factories," "Slaughtered Cattle," "Unloaded Fish," "Energy Production," "Production of Dairy Products" and "Industrial Power Consumption."
It also comprises statistical information on "Cement Sales," "Construction Workers," "Passengers landing in the Azores," "Overnight stays in Hotel Establishments," "Bank Credit Granted," "Number of Building Transactions" and "ATM Withdrawals."
The positive evolution of the regional economy has reduced the number of unemployed. Furthermore, it has contributed to the creation of more and better jobs, the financial strengthening of entrepreneurs and regional companies, and the emergence of private business activities.
