Government of the Azores promotes regional products in Porto and Vila Nova da Gaia
The Government of the Azores will organise between March 21 and 23 a campaign to promote more than 60 regional products in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, through the distribution of baskets containing these products in shops.
Developed by the Vice-Presidency, through the Society for Business Development of the Azores (SDEA), the campaign is intended to continue the dissemination, promotion and marketing of Azorean products in Mainland Portugal, a project that started last year in Lisbon with delivery of promotional baskets in 25 shops.
This year, we selected 24 shops in the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, which will receive products from over twenty Azorean companies.
Given the differentiation and quality inherent of Azorean production, which distinguishes regional products from others the other, the selection of places for product promotion and placement was made taking into consideration the size of shops, the type of consumers, the diversity of products they sell and the interest in quality production in the agri-food sector.
The Catalogue of Azorean Products and the promotion of the new Azores Brand were the basis for a first approach to these shops. All regional companies were invited to select the most representative items of their production.
The adherence of Azorean companies to this initiative was immediate and made possible the delivery of a promotional basket containing six dozen products in various categories of production, which provides a comprehensive view of regional production.
With this basket a survey will also be delivered in order to assess at the selected 24 shops the products best fit into the national market. This will also improve trade relations between producers and retailers.
This project is being implemented for the second time and there are plans to extend it to other areas of Portugal, always taking as starting point the traditional trade stores that invest in quality.
