Number of registered unemployed in the Azores drops in June and is the lowest in 31 months
According to the newsletter released by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training of the National Government, the number of unemployed registered at regional employment centres fell again in June.
For the Vice-President of the Government, Sérgio Ávila, the continuing decline in the number of registered unemployed in the Azores "confirms the positive development of job creation and the reduction of unemployment."
With regard to June 2014, the number of registered unemployed in the Azores fell 10.3%. There was a decrease in the number of registered unemployed in June 2015 from 12,523 to 11,231. These figures fall below the national average.
"Every month that passes," added Sérgio Ávila, "the number of unemployed continues to drop for 31 months, which naturally reinforces the trend towards the structural reduction of unemployment in the Azores."
The Vice-President stressed that "there is still a very long path to overcome this challenge." Nevertheless, he expressed his satisfaction with the results that have been achieved with the commitment of all parties involved.
"This is certainly an important information that encourage us to continue committed to combating unemployment, promoting active job creation and maintenance policies," the government official said, adding that "we are on the right track to continue searching for better job solutions."
The number of unemployment dropped in the month of June, registering a reduction of 1.14% compared to May 2015.
