The Furnas Monitoring and Research Center (CMIF), situated on the south bank of Furnas Lake was created in 2011 to promote the ecological recovery actions designed to restore water quality and the ecosystem of Furnas Lake.

The CMIF is composed by a reception area, where the visitor is provided with information about the project, an interactive media exhibition that invites to "travel" through the natural heritage of Furnas Valley and its Lake and discover its geology and volcanism, the Lake’s ecosystems and limnology, hydropolis, native flora and fauna.

In addition, the outside area includes a picnic area, restrooms, car park and ample green space with a privileged view over the Lake. The Center is open throughout the year.
