The Regional Health Authority reports that one positive case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on the island of Flores in the last 24 hours, following the 863 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.

The diagnosed case concerns a 39-year-old male, who arrived on the island of São Miguel on June 30 via a flight from Mainland Portugal, and then travelled to the island of Flores on July 1.

Upon arrival in the Region, the passenger presented a negative test for infection with SARS-CoV-2, and the test carried out on the 6th day produced a positive result.

Currently, the individual is clinically stable. The procedures defined for confirmed case as for as the testing and surveillance of close contacts have already been carried out by the Municipal Health Authorities. The three people with whom the passenger has travelled and cohabits upon arrival in the Region have tested negative.

So far, 154 cases of infection with the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have already been detected in the Region, with six active positive cases: four on the island of São Miguel, one on the island of Terceira and one on the island of Flores.

Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
