The Regional Directorate for Culture, through its External Services, promotes the celebration of the World Poetry Day on March 21 with a series of initiatives.
The Exhibition of Poetry Manuscripts, selected from the Library's Fund, is on display at the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive on the ground floor.
The display features manuscripts by Camilo Castelo Branco, Antero de Quental, Teófilo Braga, Maria Madalena Pinheiro Nogueira (the mother of Fernando Pessoa), Cardoso Mata, Armando Côrtes-Rodrigues, Natália Correia, Ana Hatherly, António de Oliveira Marques, José Carlos Ary dos Santos, Dórdio Guimarães and Fernando Botto Semedo.
A leisure activity titled as "O Casino da Poesia" (The Casino of Poetry) on the same floor of Ponta Delgada Public Library. Being an open initiative, the event aims to encourage participants to create and disseminate their own poems, through some game instructions.
This activity will be complemented by a display of books depicting the same theme.
In the context of these celebrations, several films on this theme will be exhibited at the Youth/Multimedia Room. This activity is addressed children, youngsters and adults.
The Poetry Manuscript Exhibition, "Casino da Poesia" and the activities held at the Multimedia Room will be open to the public at the Ponta Delgada Public Library until March 29.
"The initiative "Dar voz às palavras" will be held at the Library's Auditorium on March 22 at 8:30 PM. This is a free-admission session that will be open to poetry lovers, reciters and all those who are interested in sharing and reciting their own poems or by other authors.
In turn, the Santa Maria Museum in partnership with poet Daniel Gonçalves will launch a book of poems under the title "Notas para a transmissão da vida e outros recados que não te pude dar.”
The book by Daniel Gonçalves will have a print run of 100 copies, 50 of which will be numbered. The presentation session will take place at the Vila do Porto Municipal Library on March 21 at 9 PM.
The Pico Museum will also join the celebrations of the World Poetry Day with a poetry session featuring the "Gota de Mel" and "Muitieramá" theatre groups and the Madalena Basic Education and Secondary School Theatre Group.
With free admission session, this show will evoke some poets from Pico and will be held at the "Casa do Povo" of São Mateus do Pico at 9 PM.
In turn, the Carlos Machado Mobile Museum will jointly celebrate the World Poetry and the World Forestry Day, which is also celebrated on March 21, starting its itinerant activities throughout the island of São Miguel. Mobile Museum Carlos Machado Museum, for its part, will celebrate jointly with the World Poetry Day and World Day of Tree and Forest, which also points to March 21, starting a new roaming the island of São Miguel.
The first action will be held in Sete Cidades, where the project was launched in 2008.
In addition to the usual activities that will focus on the Natural History collection and the Convent's History, the new edition of the Mobile Museum will implement new cultural anthropology methodologies towards the recovery of cultural heritage and the reinforcement of local identity.
The Carlos Machado Mobile Museum is a project intended to bring the museum closer to the population of São Miguel and, thus, contribute to its role as a "territory museum," an entity that plays an important role in the promotion of social inclusion and citizenship.
