The Regional Health Authority reports that one positive case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on the island of São Miguel in the last 24 hours, following the 803 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.
The diagnosed case concerns a 27-year-old male, who has recently arrived in the Autonomous Region of the Azores via a flight from Mainland Portugal.
After inconclusive test results, an infection caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was diagnosed Tuesday.
In spite of the monitoring and guidance provided by the Municipal Health Delegation, the individual travelled Tuesday to Lisbon and is currently in Mainland Portugal.
During his stay in the Region, the individual had close contact with two residents who were already tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection, with negative results.
The individual is clinically stable and the procedures defined for confirmed cases and surveillance of close contacts have already been carried out by the Municipal Health Delegation in conjunction with the health authorities of Mainland Portugal. The close contacts identified on the island of São Miguel will be tested today.
So far, 151 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease, have been detected in the Region, with three active cases: two on São Miguel Island and one on Terceira Island.
Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.
The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
