The Regional Health Authority reports that 21 positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed on the island of São Miguel and one positive case on the island of Graciosa in the last 24 hours, following 401 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.
The cases diagnosed on São Miguel Island correspond to 16 females, aged between 25 and 99, and five males, aged between 42 and 93, all related to the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste. The situation is being followed up by the Municipal Health Delegation and the procedures are under way for the transfer of patients to the Nordeste Health Centre, the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada and confinement at home/accommodation provided for this purpose.
The case diagnosed on Graciosa Island concerns a 57-year-old female, who is in home confinement, and is being monitored by the Municipal Health Delegation. The procedures defined for confirmed case are in progress as well as the surveillance of close contacts.
As of now, 128 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, with 14 recovered cases, five deaths and 109 active cases: 81 on São Miguel Island, five on Terceira Island, five on Graciosa Island, four on São Jorge Island, nine on Pico Island and five on Faial Island.
The information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated this afternoon at 4 pm, through a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.
The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
