Government of the Azores supports safeguarding of whaling heritage with the allocation of more than 136 thousand Euros
According to the contracts published today in the Official Journal, the Government of the Azores has allocated more than 136 thousand Euros to support projects developed in the area of whaling heritage.
This financial allocation is intended to support costs with the maintenance, repair, recovery and installation of engines in 57 vessels owned by institutions and individuals from the islands of Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial and Flores.
The order issued by the Regional Secretary for Education and Culture provides that the financial support measures will comprise five training projects in the art of sailing and rowing on whaling boats and three projects on the acquisition of means of rescue.
In addition, the same order authorises the Regional Directorate for Culture, Nuno Lopes, has been duly authorised to sign the necessary financing contracts with different entities.
