The Regional Health Authority reports that one positive case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on the island of Terceira in the last 24 hours, following the 362 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.

The case diagnosed on Terceira Island corresponds to a 28-year-old male, who landed in the Autonomous Region of the Azores yesterday, June 9, from a military flight from Mainland Portugal.

Nine people were travelling on this military flight, one of whom landed in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, and is currently awaiting the test results.

The remaining eight passengers were tested on arrival to Terceira Island, registering a positive result and seven negative results.

The nine passengers are in confinement.

The positive case is clinically stable and is being followed up by the Municipal Health Authority. The procedures defined for confirmed case are in progress as well as the surveillance of close contacts.

With this most recent case, the only active in the Region, the total number of cases of infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, now stands at 147.

Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
