The Regional Health Authority reports that three positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed on the island of São Miguel, following 454 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.
The cases diagnosed on São Miguel Island concern two females, aged between 56 and 84, and a 49-year-old male.
One of the cases was hospitalised Sunday at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada and is related to the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste. The other two cases are confined at hotel unit and are being followed up by the Municipal Health Delegation, with the procedures defined for confirmed case and surveillance of close contacts under way.
The Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada reports the death of an 86-year-old patient, a resident at the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste that had been hospitalised; condolences have been offered to the bereaved family.
As of now, 131 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, with 15 recovered cases, seven deaths and 109 active cases: 82 on São Miguel Island, five on Terceira Island, five on Graciosa Island, three on São Jorge Island, nine on Pico Island and five on Faial Island.
The information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated this afternoon at 4 pm, through a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.
The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
