The Azores, through the Regional Directorates for Culture and Sport, under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, join the celebrations of the International Day of Monuments and Sites that will be marked today under the theme "Sport, a common heritage."
In the context of the Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in August, ICOMOS - International Council on Monuments and Sites dedicated this year's celebration to sports heritage.
With the aim of promoting the cultural importance of sport, either in the identity consolidation of communities or in the different ways the heritage associated to it takes form, the museums belonging to the Network of Azorean Museums, in partnership with the Sports Services from several islands, present a programme featuring several activities to mark the occasion.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
