The Regional Director for Support to the Investment and Competitiveness highlighted in Praia da Vitória the "great dynamics" of Terceira's economy, in particular, and of the Azores, in general, noting the growth of economic activity in employment creation and unemployment reduction.
Ricardo Medeiros added that, according to data released by the Azores Regional Statistics Service, the Economic Activity Indicator (EAI), which assesses the general situation of the economy in the short term, registered an average growth of 2.2% in the Region in 2018."
"This average growth of the EAI demonstrates that the Regional economy recorded a positive evolution last years, being reflected on the net employment creation and the performance of various production and consumption indicators," stressed the Regional Director, who spoke at the end of a visit to a commercial establishment.
On the other hand, Ricardo Medeiros stressed that "the maintenance of the favourable evolution of the regional economy has contributed to the financial strengthening of regional entrepreneurs and companies as well as to the emergence of new private business activities."
The calculation of the EAI released by the Azores Regional Statistics Institute (SREA) considers the data on the main activity sectors in the Region, including statistical series on "Construction Workers," "Cement Sales," Passengers landing in the Azores," "Overnight stays in Hotel Establishments, Rural Tourism and Local Accommodation," "Bank Loans," "Number of Building Transactions" and "ATM Withdrawals."
It also takes into consideration statistical information on "Milk Delivered in Factories," "Slaughtered Cattle," "Unloaded Fish," "Energy Production," "Dairy Production" and "Industrial Power Consumption."
