The Regional Health Authority reports that a passenger with SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection, which causes COVID-19 disease, arrived at Ponta Delgada Airport on Sunday, April 5.
The individual, a male, non-resident in the Region, was receiving hospital care at home in the city of Porto, from where he escaped.
Following a warning issued by the medical team accompanying the patient, the Municipal Health Delegate of Ponta Delgada has taken the necessary steps, namely the intervention of security forces and the transport of the individual to the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital.
The individual took the flight TP 1867 that departed from Lisbon with destination to Ponta Delgada, where he arrived at 11 am of April 5.
After disembarking, all passengers proceeded to mandatory confinement in a hotel unit.
The patient travelled in seat 1D and was at safe distance from the remaining passengers.
The case is being followed up by the Municipal Health Delegation in conjunction with the National Health Authority.
Currently, the procedures defined for confirmed case and the surveillance of close contacts are in progress.
