The Regional Health Authority reports that seven positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed on the island of São Miguel, following 635 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores.
The cases diagnosed on São Miguel Island concern seven females aged between one and 93.
Among them, five resided at the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste, while the other two correspond to a hospitalised patient and a health professional of the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada.
These situations are being followed up by Municipal Health Authorities. The procedures defined for confirmed case and the surveillance of close contacts are in progress as well as the transfer of the five aforementioned patients to the hospital.
The Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada reports the death of an 84-year-old patient, a resident at the Nursing Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Nordeste that had been hospitalised; condolences have been offered to the bereaved family.
The recovery of four cases on the island of São Miguel has also been recorded.
As of now, 138 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, with 19 recovered cases, eight deaths and 111 active cases: 84 on São Miguel Island, five on Terceira Island, five on Graciosa Island, three on São Jorge Island, nine on Pico Island and five on Faial Island.
The information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated this afternoon at 4 pm, through a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.
The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
