Biography
Jorge Augusto Paulus Bruno

Born on: 6/13/1959

Jorge Augusto Paulus Bruno, a native of Terceira Island, was born on June 13, 1959.

He graduated in History at the University of the Azores in 1981 and has, since then, held positions of executive and political responsibility, namely as Regional Director for Cultural Affairs, Regional Director for Social Security, Vice-President of the Regional Civil Protection Service and Director of Health Organisation and Planning Services in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.  At the beginning of his career, he served as Head of Cabinet of the Regional Secretaries for Education and Culture of the II and III Regional Governments of the Azores.

He is a member of Terceira Island's Staff as senior technician of the Regional Directorate for Culture. He is a full member of various cultural institutions.
He has attended courses and training initiatives in his area of expertise at regional, national and international institutions.

He is the author of several articles, having delivered various lectures and conferences on culture, medical emergency, civil protection, social security and social work in Portugal and abroad.

He took over the presidency of IAC – Azorean Institute of Culture from 1990 to 2009 and of “Atlântida – Revista de Cultura” (Atlântida – Culture Magazine), a body of this Institute that promotes all forms of culture.

He coordinated the Inventory project of the Azores Property Heritage, whose implementation is being carried out by IAC - Azorean Institute of Culture with funding from the Regional Directorate for Culture of the Regional Government of the Azores.

He represented IAC - Azorean Institute of Culture in the management of the Atlantic Digital Art Project (PAAD), which included partners from the Macaronesia region. It was implemented with funding from the INTERREG III-B programme, Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands (FERDER) under which the IAC was the “leading partner."

He coordinated the management of the “Chronos” project (which aimed at creating an e-learning platform with contents related to the History and Culture of the Macaronesian Archipelagos) in which the IAC-Azores Institute of Culture was the “leading partner.” Its implementation was funded by INTERREG III-B, Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands (FERDER), involving partners from the Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde.

He currently chairs the General Assembly of the Azorean Institute of Culture and of the Board of Directors of Terceira Island Film Club.
Since 2005, he has held the position of Director of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum. He ceased his duties from October 26, 2009 to November 26, 2012, when he served as Regional Director for Culture of the X Government of the Azores.
