He graduated in History and is a Master in Contemporary History with a Postgraduate degree in Museology. He worked as secondary school teacher in Lisbon and the Azores. He has been a member of the Horta Museum's staff since 1998 and currently holds the position of Curatorial Advisor.
Since January 2006, he has simultaneously held the position of Coordinator of the Regional Directorate for Culture on Faial Island.
Between 1998 and 2002, he served as Regional Director for Tourism of the VII and VIII Regional Governments of the Azores. He has been the Director of the Horta Regional Museum, a position he had held from 1994 to 1998.
He has published several works in the field of museology as well as studies on island heritage and other historical-scientific works.
