The museum is a permanent cultural institution serving society and its development. It is a non-profit institution bearing the responsibilities and duties that are common to all institutions of the Azores Regional Museums Network. Its work involves surveying, collecting, preserving and disseminating material testimonies of man and the surrounding environment.
