6.5 million Euro investment in Topo Port to create new centrality on the island of São Jorge, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government highlighted today the new centrality that the improvement work of Topo Port will create in this area of São Jorge Island, an investment of about 6.5 million Euros that will benefit the fisheries and nautical tourism sectors.
“It is gratifying to see the potential that this investment can have for the development of this part of São Jorge Island, creating a new centrality in Topo, which stems from this relation between islands and the use of an infrastructure for the development of activities with relevance for the Region, such as maritime tourism activities," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke after visiting the site of the works to improve the safety and operational conditions of Topo Port, during his visit to São Jorge as part of the round of contacts taking place throughout the Region, following the first phase of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to journalists, Vasco Cordeiro stressed that the works are proceeding at a normal pace, an investment that “will create new conditions for the development of this area.”
In addition to improving the conditions for the fishing sector, the upgrades being made to Topo Port will allow the “opening of new areas, such as maritime-tourism activities, taking advantage of the proximity to the island of Terceira."
The Topo Port will be equipped with a 60-metre long jetty and a 40-metre long mooring area. The intervention will also include the repaving of the existing wharf as well as the construction of a ramp and an embankment with an area of about 1,200 square metres.
On Tuesday, and as part of this round of contacts taking place throughout the archipelago, Vasco Cordeiro will travel to Graciosa, where he will visit the island's air terminal and meet with the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Manuel Avelar.
