Carlos César defends greater definition of European policies during meeting with MEPs
The President of the Government reiterated this morning “the importance of defining the EU strategy for outermost regions,” albeit “the moment of uncertainty regarding the availability of financial resources for the development of policies” such as regional policies and those related to agriculture and fisheries, which are important for the Azores.
Carlos César, who received the Socialist MEPs Luís Paulo Alves, Capoulas Santos and Edite Estrela at an audience, added that it is “fundamental to bear in mind the definition of goals when assessing these funds so that we may allocate resources in accordance with the established priorities.”
At a time when the powers of the European Parliament are strengthened within the European Union’s institutional architecture, meetings such as the one held with the MEPs on Friday are very important for the proximity and support to the issues that are crucial for the Azores.
Revealing that the Azores has some cases at a midterm assessment stage in the area of fisheries and agriculture, Carlos César said that “we discussed thoroughly these two areas and I must stress the commitment of our MEPs in these sectors.”
