The European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation begins Wednesday a three-day visit to the Azores, an official mission closing the Science Roadmap that has been promoted in several Portuguese regions and cities by this European official.
Upon his arrival to São Miguel, Carlos Moedas meets the President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, at Santana Palace, followed by a visit to the Ponta Delgada Campus of the University of the Azores.
On the second day, Thursday, Commissioner Carlos Moedas, who will be accompanied by the Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology, Gui Menezes, will visit NONAGON, where he will learn about the activity of São Miguel and Terceira Science and Technology Parks. He will then learn about the progress of the Atlantic International Research Center (AIR Center), the Azores International Satellite Launch Programme and the Forward project.
Also on this day, there will be a meeting to address the future of science in Europe and the role of the Azores with the participation of researchers, academics, and representatives of startups and of the regional technological and business system. Moreover, the programme also includes is a visit to Pico Vermelho Geothermal Plant.
On Friday, during his stay on Faial Island, Carlos Moedas will visit the Lula submarine owned by the Rebikoff-Niggeler Foundation, the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores, the Deep-SeaLab of the Maritime Institute and the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre.
