Commissioner's announcement that there are no cuts to POSEI is "excellent news" for Azorean agriculture, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government of the Azores considered the fact that the European Commissioner announced no cuts to POSEI programme under the next multiannual financial framework in the 2021-2027 period is "excellent news" for Azorean agriculture.
Vasco Cordeiro spoke after receiving the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, in the beginning of a two-day visit to the Azores, at the invitation of the Government of the Azores.
"I would like to express my satisfaction with the fact that, as the Commissioner announced, the issue of POSEI should be solved in order to ensure that not only the Autonomous Region of the Azores, but all regions benefiting from the POSEI will not face cuts in this measure," said Vasco Cordeiro.
After emphasising that POSEI is of paramount importance to the Region, the President of the Government considered that this fact was excellent news and that the meeting was "particularly fruitful and useful."
"In addition, there are a number of other issues in which he noted the Commissioner's commitment to take them into consideration in a context of difficult negotiations and increased challenges at European level," namely Brexit and other priorities set by the Commission for the post-2020 period, stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
"At the end of this meeting, I am satisfied and optimistic with this solution for POSEI. I am also confident that, within the powers held by Commissioner Hogan, he have a valid partner interested in helping to solve" these challenges, concluded the President of the Government.
