The Council of the Government approved today the Programme of the XII Government of the Azores. In this regard, President Vasco Cordeiro ensured that the document meets the ambition to respond to the challenges that the Region is facing in various areas.
"This meeting of the Government Council was intended to approve the Programme of the Government, which corresponds almost entirely to the one that was presented during the regional elections of October 16 and approved by the majority of Azorean citizens," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government assured that the recently approved programme, which will be delivered to the President of the Legislative Assembly Wednesday in Horta, demonstrates our "ambition to respond with determination to the challenges the Region will face in the new cycle that now begins."
"There are challenges in various components, either in the social areas, with the fight against poverty and social exclusion, or in the strengthening of the ongoing project for the education and qualification of Azorean citizens," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
In the economic component, he added that the Government's programme aims to consolidate the development already achieve in the previous legislative period in areas such as Tourism.
As for Agriculture and the Fisheries, the sectors under greater stress as a result of the current context, this document presents measures to boost the income of Azorean farmers and fishers as well as the competitiveness of these sectors in regional economy. They will contribute to economic development, employment creation and wealth generation in the Region, said the President of the Government.
