Economic growth above 2% in 2018 evidences merit of public policies, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government highlighted the merit of the public policies implemented in the Region that have contributed, according to data published today, to the economic growth above two percent registered by the Azores in four consecutive years.
"The wealth generated in the Azores in 2018 grew more than two percent. In fact, the year of 2018 was the fourth consecutive year in which the wealth generated in our Region grew more than two percent. This situation is due to the dynamics of our exports, the vitality of private investment, the increase in the disposable income of families and the growth of consumption," said Vasco Cordeiro on the first day of the Government's statutory visit to Corvo Island.
According to the Regional Quarterly Accounts published today by the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA) on the year 2018, the estimated growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Azores stood at 2.3% in terms of volume and at 4.04% in terms of value, reaching 4,295 million Euros.
"If the data made public today is confirmed, the wealth generated in our Region grew more than in the country last year, but, above all, it has been four years of economic growth above two per cent. This is very significant as to the merit of the path we have been following," stressed the President of the Government.
Vasco Cordeiro spoke at the opening of the expansion and redevelopment works of Casa Port on the island of Corvo. On the occasion, he stated that this economic growth stems from the Government's confidence in the policies pursued in various sectors, which have allowed the Region to overcome its challenges.
