Employment creation remains "primary goal" of the Government, assures Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government of the Azores stressed on Friday the need to streamline the conditions for the economy to create jobs faster, thus providing a response to the evolution of the number of Azoreans who have entered in the labour market.
"I must stress that we have focused our attention on this fact and it reinforces our concern of considering it a priority goal for the Government of the Azores," assured Vasco Cordeiro, who was questioned on the statistical data released on Thursday.
According to the President of the Government, it is necessary to analyse these figures very carefully in order to understand their meaning: if this situation is the result of the reduction of jobs or the result of the entry of more people in the labour market.
"More than 700 jobs were created in the third quarter of this year. If we also bear in mind the figures recorded in the second quarter of 2013, a total of 2500 jobs were created in the second and third quarters," the President of the Government reminded. However, "this is not enough as the data reveal that 3,500 people entered the labour market in the third quarter."
Furthermore, Vasco Cordeiro said "these considerations are not particularly relevant for families affected by unemployment due to the situation they are facing." Nevertheless, the data indicate that the measures implemented by the Regional Government have contributed to the creation of jobs. In this context, it is important to reinforce the Government's capacity to boost Azorean economy, enabling it to create jobs faster.
