Fighting corruption must be everyone's goal, says Vasco Cordeiro

The President of the Government of the Azores guaranteed today the Government's commitment to the fight against corruption, a matter that is not an exclusive concern of parties but rather a concern of all entities.

"With regard to the fight against corruption, this is not a matter of parties. It is everyone's goal and I would like to give a very clear account of the Government's commitment to this objective," said Vasco Cordeiro, who spoke at the Legislative Assembly in Horta during a debate on the Plan and Budget proposals for 2018.

In this context, the President of the Government stated that, since June of this year, the Regional Public Administration Inspectorate, under its Activity Plan for 2017, has been working to assess compliance with the plans to combat corruption in several departments, as required by law.

"Therefore, this is a matter to which we are committed. We available to analyse all proposals that may arise, because it not goal that solely concerns parties, but rather all institutions and those who have a healthy understanding of what is at stake," said the government official.

According to him, the action taken by the Azorean Government in this matter, namely the efforts undertaken by the Regional Public Administration Inspectorate, does not concern a case-by-case approach, but with what the legal provisions establishing the obligations and performance of administrative entities.
