The Regional Government is aware of the meritorious work developed by the Azorean Emigrants Association, providing to support to its activities.
This idea was conveyed today by the President of the Government, Carlos César, at the end of an audience granted to this institution in Ponta Delgada.
According to him, this association plays an important role in assisting returnees, referring potential emigrants and supporting the immigrant population in the Azores, like other institutions active in the Region in these same areas.
Speaking to journalists, the head of the Azorean Government noted that we are currently at a stage when there are "more returnees than emigrants, which is understandable, insofar as the traditional destinations, except Canada, are facing unemployment problems worse than the Azores."
Carlos César also pointed the existence of "new emigration markets, either to Brazil or Angola, but many people are still better in the Azores than elsewhere, because here we have a social support network and associations, including this one, which can provide assistance to them.”
In this context, he concluded, "we can only consolidate solidarity and cohesion in our Region by combining volunteering with the organisation of these associations supported by the Government."
