Government to revise mechanisms that will reinforce integration of people with disabilities into the labour market, announces Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Regional Government announced in Lagoa the revision and reinforcement of mechanisms promoting the entry of citizens with disabilities into the labour market. In this regard, he urged regional entrepreneurs to be partners in this process.
"In the current term, we will move forward with the revision and reinforcement of the mechanisms that will promote those who needs special support in accessing the labour market," said Vasco Cordeiro. He spoke during the presentation of the construction project for the Occupational Activity Centre and the Residential Home of the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Santo António."
This three-million Euro investment will recover an old building where fifty vacancies will be created. There will be 30 vacancies for the Occupational Activity Centre and 18 for the Residential Home, thus addressing shortages in this type of services.
In his speech, the President of the Government pointed out that the reinforcement of measures for integration into the labour market - whether in the regular market, protected employment or in social employment market - is not just a challenge for public authorities or regional institutions working in this area.
"I challenge our entrepreneurs to be partners in this process of integration of Azoreans who need special care so that we can contribute not only to strengthening their autonomy, but also to fulfilling a more comprehensive purpose: to become an increasingly inclusive, supportive, cohesive and fairer society," stated the President of the Government.
Vasco Cordeiro also pointed out that the Government's investment in infrastructure of this kind intends to create, through social facilities, the conditions so that their users "may be fully Azorean citizens and, above all, may be fully integrated into society."
The President of the Government stressed that the Occupational Activity Centre and the Residential Home to be built in Lagoa fall within a policy towards the reinforcement and redevelopment of social infrastructures that covers the entire archipelago. In 2017, it managed to support about 800 Azoreans.
"This represents another step in this journey to ensure that by 2020 we will have an installed capacity in our Region that is appropriate to the needs in this area and that involves the creation of about 250 vacancies," said Vasco Cordeiro.
