Investments in water supply guarantee better conditions and more income for agriculture, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government opened today the works to reinforce water supply to Paul Lake on Pico Island, an investment of nearly 200 thousand Euros that falls within the regional strategy to provide Azorean farmers with better conditions for the development of their activity.
"This is another example of what we are doing, not only on the island of Pico but also throughout the Region in order to reinforce the capacity of water supply to farms," said Vasco Cordeiro.
According to the President of the Government, the water exploitation and waterproofing works in Paul Lake fall within the strategy implemented to "provide farmers with better conditions for the development of their activity, thus strengthening the competitiveness of farms and, subsequently, their income."
"These goals have been pursued and achieved with such investments. Moreover, there are several situations under consideration to improve water supply to farms throughout the Region," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government also stated that the work opened today will directly benefit about 40 farms on the island of Pico, covering an area of about 300 hectares.
This contract work for the exploitation of water resources and the waterproofing of Paul Lake contributed, through changes made to the lake profile, to increasing its storage capacity that now reaches nearly 7 thousand cubic metres of water.
