"It is an honour and a pleasure" to welcome Chinese Prime Minister in the Azores, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government said it was a pleasure and an honour to welcome the Prime Minister of China, being an opportunity to present Li Keqiang several attractions of Terceira Island and the Azores.
"It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister of the Republic of China on Terceira Island and have the opportunity to, during the hours you will be staying here, present you some of the attractions of this island and the Azores in general," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke Monday to reporters at Lajes Air Base, after exchanging greetings with the Prime Minister of China at the moment of his arrival to the island in the early evening.
Vasco Cordeiro also participated in the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, and the Prime Minister of China, Li Keqiang.
Asked about the intentions of this visit the President of the Government stressed that "the goals, purposes and the official agenda of this visit are public and, therefore, they are what they are."
In July 2014, the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, also visited Terceira and, in June this year, Vasco Cordeiro received in audience Chinese Minister of the Sea, Wang Hong.
"We welcome those who come for good reasons. This happened with the Minister of the Sea of the People's Republic of China and is the case of the Prime Minister's stopover on this island," said the President of the Government.
During the day, the President of the Government follows Li Keqiang's visit to various sites on Terceira Island, including Monte Brasil, Duque da Terceira Garden, Alto da Memória monument and Algar do Carvão (Coal Cavern).
By late afternoon, Vasco Cordeiro exchanges farewell greetings with the Prime Minister of China.
