Meeting with Mayor of Horta addressed cooperation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government continued today the round of contacts taking place on all islands of the archipelago, following the resumption of economic activity in the Region, with a meeting with the Mayor of Horta to analyse the cooperation work in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
“This meeting with the Mayor of Horta allowed us to analyse, under the scope of City Council's area of intervention, the cooperation work that continues to be done in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Vasco Cordeiro after the meeting with José Leonardo Silva.
Accordingly, the President of the Government stressed that, in the context of this partnership, the Horta City Council will now prepare the structure to be installed at Horta Airport for the collection of biological samples of passengers tested upon arrival on the island of Faial.
Speaking to journalists, Vasco Cordeiro also noted that the decision is being made regarding the installation of a testing laboratory, in collaboration with the University of the Azores, on the island of Faial, which will increase the capacity for coronavirus testing in the Azores.
The meeting with José Leonardo Silva was also an opportunity to analyse the situation of various public investments that ate relevant to the island of Faial.
“It was a meeting that contributed to a very productive exchange of views on a series of investments taking place or about to begin on the island of Faial, which are relevant to its economic and social development,” said Vasco Cordeiro.
In this regard, the President of the Government highlighted the investments in the new building for maritime-tourism companies in Horta, the second phase of the redevelopment of Horta Bay, which is already under testing at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory, the remodelling work of Horta Hospital, and the construction of Faial Island Health Unit and Maritime School.
