Meeting with Mayor of Praia da Vitória was opportunity to analyse economic recovery in the municipality, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government met today with the Mayor of Praia da Vitória as part of the round of contacts that have been made following the resumption of economic activity taking place in the Region in several areas.
"Here, in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, this message of trust and hope also urges for joint mobilisation and unity between different entities to make this path towards economic recovery in our Region," said Vasco Cordeiro.
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government pointed out that this meeting was also an opportunity to review the last months of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
"But this was, above all, a meeting to project the future, both at a municipal and regional level, taking into account what is necessary to do so that the Azores can resume, with confidence, the path of development in the most varied sectors of economic activity," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government also stressed the importance of the "care and precautions" that must be taken in this phase of resumption of economic activity on all the islands of the Azores, particularly at a time when wealth generation and employment creation will be a priority in planning for the coming years.
Vasco Cordeiro's visit to Terceira Island is part of a series of meetings and visits that have taken place in recent weeks on the island of São Miguel in areas such as education, fisheries, agriculture, tourism, economy and employment, following the gradual and progressive lifting of the restrictions implemented in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the President of the Government will travel to Flores and Corvo, where, among other initiatives, he will meet with the Mayors of both islands. The visit to Flores will include the works of the Poças Port and the construction of the emergency protection wall of the embankment of Lajes Port, which was destroyed by Hurricane Lorenzo in October.
Vasco Cordeiro will then travel to the other islands of the archipelago, where this round of contacts and visits will continue.
