Partnerships are backbone of social support provided to Azoreans, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government highlighted today the partnerships with Private Social Solidarity Institutions and "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" institutions, which provide nearly 700 services throughout the Region. In this regard, he defended that institutions should increasingly reinforce partnerships among themselves.
"With the dynamics of modern societies, we should be able to pave the way for the establishment of partnerships between private social solidarity institutions," said Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government spoke at the opening of the new kitchen of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Santa Cruz da Graciosa. This 800 thousand-Euro investment will benefit not only the Home Care Services, but also other services provided by the institution, namely the daycare centre, the kindergarten, the occupational activity centre and the elderly home.
This path towards the reinforcement of partnerships between institutions "may be encouraged by the Government" Vasco Cordeiro said, adding that it essentially related to the motivation and interest of institutions themselves.
"It is fundamental for the optimisation of resources, but also for the increase of the existing responses in the Region. The investment made by an institution may perfectly accommodate the needs of another institution. An investment made by the Regional Government to support an institution may, of course, benefit the users of other institutions," stated the government official.
According to Vasco Cordeiro, this work encompasses an essential component in terms of public intervention. Hence, it requires the availability and willingness of private institutions and it is up to the Government to encourage this process, which will be of benefit to all.
On the second day of the statutory visit to Graciosa Island, the President of the Government also highlighted the existing partnerships between the Government and the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" institutions and Private Social Solidarity Institutions. Currently, they provide nearly 700 services in the Azores with a view to achieving the common goal of serving the Azoreans.
"We would not be able, as a Government and as a Region, to develop these social policies without establishing partnerships with the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" institutions and with other Private Social Solidarity Institutions, whose goals converge towards to the ultimate and common goal: to serve the population," stressed the President of the Government.
As for the new kitchen of the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" institutions in Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Vasco Cordeiro considered that this work falls within the investment that has been made in social policies since the very beginning. According to him, it primarily intended "to support those who, among us, are in a situation requiring increased support."
In this context, the President of the Government mentioned the investment in the construction and remodelling of social infrastructures directed to children, youth, elderly citizens and families will 40 million Euros in the current legislative period.
