President of the Government announces public tender for the construction of the new Calheta Basic Education School on São Jorge

The President of the Government announced today that the Council of the Government, held Tuesday, has approved the launch of the public tender for the construction of the new Basic Education and Secondary School in Calheta, São Jorge Island. The works have an estimated budget of 16 million Euros.

Vasco Cordeiro spoke to journalists after visiting the construction works of the new school in Lajes do Pico, which represents an investment of nearly 14 million Euros and has a completion period of 24 months.

Under the Government's statutory visit to Pico, the President of the Government stressed that these contract works are part of a significant number of planned investments until the end of the legislative period, which include interventions in Canto da Maia, Arrifes and Rabo de Peixe schools.

Moreover, there are other school establishments that are about to be completed, such as the Velas school on São Jorge Island, added Vasco Cordeiro. With regard to Ribeira Grande school, the President of the Government stressed that the public tender has been launched; it is currently being decided in order to move forward with works.

With these investments, "we will be able to conclude the renovation of Azorean schools," which aims to provide students and teachers with better conditions," noted the President of the Government.

As regards to the works that he visited today, the President of the Government highlighted the good progress of the construction works of the new school in Lajes do Pico. It will feature several spaces that will serve the community in general, such as sports facilities and the auditorium.

The Lajes do Pico Basic Education and Secondary school will include 22 classrooms as well as specific room for IT classes, music, visual and technological education, art education and special education. It covers several educational levels from preschool to secondary education, including vocational training and artistic education.
